Interpretive Storytelling

Picture
Storytelling is a passion for me. I take special pride in enlightening others with the history of not only their current surroundings, but the fascinating people that helped create the place they are visiting or living. I've had the opportunity to do this in a variety of forms ranging from newspaper interviews, interpretive media, journal articles, and documentary production.

There are several ways to tell a story, and just as many methods to reach an audience. To be successful, one has to have a firm grasp on the topic at hand, along with the context in which past events occurred. In addition, a key plus  is the ability to corroborate, question, or dispel existing information, age-old myths and lore regarded as fact. Each project or special event, regardless of size and scope, will involve the following major building blocks of production. You may just need help with one aspect, or all of these. I can help.

Consulting

Fully understanding your needs and challenges will afford the opportunity to share  imaginative options and practicalities in telling your story. With plenty of experience to draw on, I can guide you, your team, and assorted production contractors through performing the given task and project process.

If warranted, I can provide options for having me handle aspects of the job itself.
And if I can't do it, I will make sound recommendations and introductions to those who can.

Research
& Writing

Picture
I tI tIII thrive on the challenge of combing through archival sources: vintage books, newspapers, maps, diaries, microfilm, photographs, courthouse documents and census records. Equally rewarding is the chance to interview individuals who have either experienced "historical/momentous life events, or are uniquely qualified in sharing their personal analysis.

The quest for information and answers sets the stage for presenting findings in an intriguing fashion--one a general audience should be able to understand and learn from.

 Project Management

Picture
Like anything else, proper planning and organization is the major key to success in executing high-quality interpretive media products and noteworthy commemorations.

I can provide leadership from start to finish, stimulating cohesion between client staff, key stakeholders, project underwriters, grant authorities, volunteers and production vendors. Varied duties can include budget formulation, grant writing, drafting planning committees, hiring sub-contractors, and final reporting.
